Beyond the Name Badge: Your Guide to Navigating Financial Services Conferences
"Conferences are prime opportunities to build authentic connections, expand your brand, and discover ideas that can fuel both personal and professional growth." Kari Ellis
Conferences present opportunities to elevate your career, expand your network, and strengthen your personal brand. As I get ready to take the stage at the 2025 Women in Insurance & Financial Services Conference in Omaha, NE, alongside Cameo Roberson and Susan Danzig, I'm sharing a few strategies to help you maximize every moment at your next conference.

5 Tips to Go Beyond the Name Badge and Maximize Your Conference Experience
- Arrive with Intent: Don’t just “show up.” Review the agenda ahead of time and highlight sessions that align with your professional goals. Set clear intentions for what you want to learn and who you want to meet. Send LinkedIn connection invites to speakers and others who will be attending in advance.
- Leverage Networking: Conversations at conferences can be powerful springboards. Introduce yourself confidently, ask thoughtful questions, and remember—it’s about building authentic connections, not collecting the most business cards. Get curious about the people you meet. Why are they at the event? Who would be a good referral for them?
- Elevate Your Brand: Bring your personal brand to life. Whether it’s a sharp tell me about yourself statement, a polished LinkedIn profile, or simply how you engage in conversation, make sure people walk away knowing who you are and what you stand for.
- Leverage the Hallway Moments: Some of the best takeaways don’t happen on stage but in the in-between—coffee breaks, hallway chats, or evening mixers. Be open, approachable, and curious. Those casual conversations often lead to lasting partnerships. Invite others to connect with you on LinkedIn throughout the event.
- Follow Through After: The conference may end, but the opportunity doesn’t. Send a quick LinkedIn note or email within a few days. A timely follow-up turns a chance meeting into a valuable relationship.

Our breakout session explores ways women are shattering ceilings, stepping into leadership roles, driving innovation, and redefining what success looks like.
